Marie’s objects and spatial collages immediately dragged me in with their humor but at the same time by the contradictions they evoke: lightness and heaviness, softness and hardness, delicacy and boldness, the absurdity and the preciseness. The sensitive use of material and the precise positioning in space in correspondence with architecture almost create a Mise en Scène like setting, which clearly distances her objects from so called soft art despite it’s formal and material affinity. The bodily/organic connotation goes beyond formal resemblance, as there seems to be a hidden anthropomorphism, which is triggered by scale. One gets the feeling of being in space and sharing the room with the objects in a way you would usually share it with other human beings, which enables a possibility for intimacy and communication between viewer and object.
